TELEWORK TESTIMONIAL / VISION

"I met Jon in the late 1990s when he was a Calgary Alderman. At that time, he was one of the only elected officials in Canada to actively promote telework. This was at a time when few had even heard of it, and those that did were wary of adopting it. Ahead of his time, Jon had the uncommon vision to recognize the important potential of telework as a modern solution to resolve some of Calgary's and Alberta's thorniest problems, for example, in the areas of transportation, the environment, recruitment, retention, employment for the disabled, personal and corporate productivity, etc.

In 1998 for Canadian Telework Day, Jon said 'Telework is a solution which all levels of government as well as the private sector should be exploring". In my view, if a lot more people teleworked like this we could significantly reduce rush hour traffic and save a lot of tax dollars by delaying infrastructure development. Jon's work paved the way for the City of Calgaryto be the first city in Canadato develop a comprehensive telework program for its own employees – one I helped develop. This led to the City actively promoting telework to its business community via the 'Calgary Economic Development Workshift program' www.wolrkshiftcalgary.com . In fact, City Council proclaimed April 19, 2010 as 'Telework week'. I have no doubt that Jon would make a great Mayor."
